The Kurta is a variation of the traditional ethnic dresses and it is worn by both men and women in South and Central Asia. A shorter version of the Kurta is known as the Kurti which is a female attire and most popular among women in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Srilanka.

It became famous back in the 1960s and 1970s during the beginning of the hippie culture and it still stands as a fashion statement. Kurtis is normally loose fitted shirt-like kameez and its length is little above the knee or sometimes just up to the waistline. It does not have a collar but comes in different kinds of neck patterns, cuts and sleeve styles and designs like chikankari kurtis, long kurtis ect. Kurtis is the result of Western influence on South Asian fashion.

People are crazy about festivals and they pre-plan everything from what they would be wearing to what kind of accessories will look best on them. On such festive occasions, people deck up from top to bottom with some of the elegant and stunning masterpieces.

The Kurti is an extremely adjustable and accomplished piece of attire which has managed to win the hearts and minds of the people. In colder areas like Kashmir, woollen Kurtis is worn. Many Kurtas that are created to be worn during summer comes with simple decorative works such as chikan work, print work, embroidery work and much more.

It can be worn along with leggings, tights or churidar pants but women these days love to pair it up with jeans for a trendy look. Besides the trendy effect, jeans are more durable for rough use and blue jean goes well with most colours of the Kurtis. Kurtis is a lovely outfit that can be in so many other ways. Frock style Kurtis is now the latest trend and there are two common types of it. One is the Anarkali style and the other comes with a belt at the waist.
Although women mostly buy readymade Kurtis from the stores, some prefer to have it custom stitched to fit their body size perfectly or they just alter the readymade ones according to their requirement.
